Review by hotel critic
Just returned from a rejuvenating three-night stay at Hodgkinson’s Hotel in Matlock Bath. As an environmental scientist, I often look for places that balance comfort with a sustainable approach, and this hotel creatively blends historical charm with modern needs. The hotel’s tranquil atmosphere gave me the perfect setting to unwind after long days exploring the South Pacific-inspired gardens. I appreciated how great care has been taken to restore the property, reflecting its heritage while meeting the discerning traveller’s expectations. After a restful night in a spacious room overlooking the river, the breakfast options impressed with variety, from fresh smoothies to hearty options. I also indulged in a meal at the restaurant, where locals also seem to dine, so reserving a table is wise. The hidden garden space off the second floor became my secluded retreat, allowing for moments of relaxation. Hodgkinson's offered a delightful blend of history, comfort, and serenity that encourages a return visit.
